Cambodia has expressed strong confidence in raising bilateral trade with Vietnam to $20 billion in the near future, citing rising economic cooperation and major cross-border developments. The goal reflects both nations’ commitment to strengthening long-term economic ties.
After meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, Hun Sen highlighted the upcoming inauguration of the Mien Chay international border gate in early December. He said the project will enhance cross-border trade, improve the movement of goods, and support cooperation across multiple sectors.
Trade between the two countries has continued to grow steadily. In the first nine months of 2025, bilateral trade exceeded $6 billion, with Cambodia exporting nearly $2.94 billion worth of goods to Vietnam and importing over $3.11 billion. Both sides view these figures as a foundation for achieving the $20 billion trade target.
Cambodia also remains a key destination for Vietnamese investors. More than 200 active Vietnamese projects operate in sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, technology, tourism, and green economy development. Vietnam currently has 215 registered investment projects in Cambodia valued at nearly $2.94 billion, underscoring the strength of the economic partnership.
