National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn met with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan in Hà Nội, marking the first official visit by a Bhutanese head of state to Vietnam. Both sides affirmed the importance of deepening their partnership based on mutual respect, cultural preservation, and shared values of promoting people’s happiness.
Chairman Mẫn highlighted the achievements in bilateral relations, particularly cooperation between the two parliaments through exchanges and joint participation in multilateral forums. He proposed expanding delegation visits, strengthening legislative cooperation, and establishing Friendship Parliamentarians Groups to enhance mutual understanding and support socio-economic development.
The Chairman also expressed Vietnam’s readiness to expand cooperation with Bhutan in logistics, tourism, and high-tech agriculture, encouraging businesses from both nations to increase trade and investment. He emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to creating a favorable legal environment for Bhutanese enterprises.
King Wangchuck welcomed the proposals, praised Vietnam’s economic achievements, and invited the Vietnamese National Assembly to send a delegation to Bhutan. Both sides agreed to maximize economic cooperation, promote cultural exchanges, and continue supporting each other at regional and international platforms.
