Bangkok has been declared a disaster-affected area following days of relentless rainfall that resulted in widespread flooding across the Thai capital. The declaration, which encompasses all 50 districts of Bangkok, empowers authorities to implement emergency measures swiftly, including accelerating drainage operations and setting up temporary shelters for those displaced by the floods.

The heavy rains have severely disrupted traffic and hampered movement throughout the city, with nearly 300 millimeters of rain recorded since Thursday. This has led to significant waterlogging and flooding on roads in various parts of Bangkok, complicating daily commutes and emergency responses.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has instructed relevant agencies to coordinate their efforts to ensure that aid reaches affected residents promptly. These efforts include not only providing immediate relief but also identifying and assisting bedridden patients and other vulnerable groups who may be at greater risk due to the flooding.

In addition to addressing the immediate needs of affected communities, authorities will assess the extent of damage to both public and private properties. This evaluation will be crucial for facilitating assistance and compensation for communities impacted by the floods.

The city’s response aims to minimize the disruption caused by the flooding and ensure a swift recovery process for all residents. As emergency operations continue, authorities remain focused on mitigating the impact of the floods while planning for future resilience against similar events.
