In a bold declaration on X, Elon Musk announced, “Today, the America party is formed to give you back your freedom.” This pronouncement signals the official launch of his new political party, which he plans to strategically position to gain pivotal influence in Congress by targeting a select number of House and Senate seats.
Musk’s decision was heavily influenced by an Independence Day poll on X, where a significant majority of respondents voted “yes” to his idea of creating a new party. He has consistently framed his initiative as a fight against a “uniparty” system, accusing the established Democratic and Republican parties of “bankrupting our country with waste & graft.”
The formation of the “America Party” comes amidst a public rift between Musk and President Donald Trump. While Musk was a considerable financial donor to Trump’s 2024 campaign and participated in his administration’s “department of government efficiency,” his strong opposition to a recent $3.3 trillion spending bill pushed him to take independent political action.
Musk’s strategy hinges on the current razor-thin legislative margins in Congress.
