Vietnam, World Bank Strengthen Ties for Water Security, Climate Resilience

Vietnam and the World Bank have reinforced their partnership to enhance cooperation on critical issues like water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and senior officials from the World Bank.

The Vietnamese government acknowledged the World Bank’s extensive support in vital areas such as infrastructure, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainable development. Officials highlighted the positive impact of World Bank-funded projects, which have significantly improved the management of water resources, bolstered food security, and advanced climate adaptation initiatives across the nation.

Deputy Prime Minister Dũng emphasized the importance of water security as a strategic priority for Vietnam, especially given the growing climate-related challenges in regions like the Mekong Delta. He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and advocated for expanding long-term collaboration in water management and climate resilience efforts.

The World Bank reiterated its commitment to assisting Vietnam through various means, including financing, technical support, policy guidance, and global expertise. Bank officials noted that enhancing water security and climate adaptation will be central to the upcoming partnership framework with Vietnam.

In addition, both parties discussed the potential for increased cooperation in areas such as climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. They highlighted the importance of accelerating projects that support vulnerable communities and foster long-term environmental sustainability.
