Vietnam and France have pledged to bolster their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on enhanced collaboration in key areas such as diplomacy, trade, defense, energy, technology, and infrastructure. This commitment was reaffirmed during discussions held in Hanoi, where both nations reviewed their bilateral ties and agreed to expedite the execution of their partnership action plan. The dialogue underscored the importance of accelerating cooperative efforts, with Vietnam advocating for stronger alliances in defense, cybersecurity, nuclear energy, science and technology, critical minerals, and major infrastructure projects.
In particular, Vietnam urged France to advance the ratification of the EU–Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to continue its support for lifting the European Union’s “yellow card” restriction on Vietnamese seafood exports. The appeal for deeper collaboration reflects Vietnam’s strategic priorities in enhancing its economic and security frameworks, while also aligning with the broader objectives of both countries to foster sustainable development and multilateral engagement.
France, recognizing Vietnam as a pivotal strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region, expressed its intention to deepen cooperation in several key sectors. This includes expanding ties in nuclear energy, the exploration of rare earths, satellite technology, transportation infrastructure, healthcare, and cultural exchanges. Such initiatives are seen as vital to advancing mutual interests and reinforcing the long-standing Franco-Vietnamese relationship in a rapidly evolving global context.
Both nations also committed to intensified coordination on regional and global challenges, underscoring the importance of promoting multilateralism and dialogue. This mutual understanding aims to address pressing issues while fostering peace and stability in the region. The discussions in Hanoi serve as a testament to the enduring partnership between Vietnam and France, as both countries strive to navigate the complexities of international relations and economic cooperation in the 21st century.
