Rupert Grint is set to reprise his iconic role as Ron Weasley, but this time on the Broadway stage. The actor, who became synonymous with the character through the Harry Potter film series, will join the cast of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027. This marks Grint’s return to the world of Harry Potter, more than a decade after the final film was released.
Having portrayed Ron Weasley in all eight of the Harry Potter movies alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, Grint expressed excitement about stepping back into this beloved role. “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life,” he shared, highlighting how the experience feels both familiar and new, particularly as both he and the character are now fathers.
Grint’s return to the wizarding world on Broadway follows in the footsteps of Tom Felton, who recently took on his film role of Draco Malfoy in the same production. Felton is expected to continue his performance through January. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded globally, selling over 14 million tickets and generating more than $532 million from its New York production alone.
The Broadway run will not be Grint’s first experience on the New York stage; he made his debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since the conclusion of the Harry Potter films, he has continued to build his acting portfolio with roles in “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.”
This return to the magical universe coincides with the development of a new Harry Potter television series for HBO, which aims to bring the beloved story to a new generation of viewers. Grint’s participation in the Broadway production adds to the ongoing legacy of Harry Potter, keeping the magic alive for fans both old and new.
