In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng expressed Vietnam’s dedication to enhancing its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States during discussions with newly appointed US Ambassador Jennifer Wicks. The Prime Minister highlighted the US as a crucial partner for Vietnam, advocating for stronger collaboration across various sectors including trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security.
Prime Minister Hưng emphasized the importance of finalizing a fair and balanced bilateral trade agreement to provide businesses with greater certainty. The dialogue also included discussions on bolstering cooperation in areas such as defense, cybersecurity, law enforcement, and humanitarian assistance. A significant portion of the talks addressed ongoing efforts to rectify the legacy of the Vietnam War, with a focus on dioxin cleanup, unexploded ordnance removal, and identifying missing soldiers.
Ambassador Wicks reiterated the United States’ commitment to expanding economic ties and supporting Vietnam’s development aspirations. She emphasized collaboration in education, innovation, maritime security, and tackling regional issues. Wicks also pledged to continue joint humanitarian initiatives aimed at addressing war legacy concerns and fostering closer people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
