Australia claimed a decisive 59-run victory over Zimbabwe in the opening match of their three-game ODI series in Harare, with Matt Renshaw delivering a standout performance by scoring his first century in the format. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia posted a formidable total of 294-8 in their allotted 50 overs.

Renshaw’s impressive innings of 109 provided the backbone for Australia’s batting, as he constructed vital partnerships with teammates Alex Carey and Ollie Peake. Despite Zimbabwean bowler Newman Nyamhuri’s five-wicket haul, which saw him finish with figures of 5-62, the Australians managed to maintain control and set a challenging target.

In their chase, Zimbabwe faced a shaky start, losing four early wickets. However, a resilient 98-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza offered a glimmer of hope for the home side. Ervine contributed 59 runs before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis, while Raza added 57 before falling to Spencer Johnson, as Zimbabwe’s pursuit gradually lost momentum.

Nathan Ellis emerged as a key figure for Australia with the ball, claiming five wickets for just 31 runs in 9.1 overs. His effective spell was instrumental in dismantling Zimbabwe’s lower order, ultimately bowling them out for 235 in 45.1 overs.

The teams will meet again for the second ODI in Harare on Friday, followed by the final match of the series on Sunday, as Australia aims to secure a series win.
