Vietnam and Azerbaijan are seeking to deepen their strategic partnership by enhancing trade and travel links, as highlighted in recent talks between Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in Baku. The discussions, held on October 14 during Xuan’s visit to the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), aimed at expanding cooperation across various sectors, including oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, and tourism.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, established after Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2025. Highlighting potential areas for economic, trade, and investment collaboration, both sides expressed a desire to explore joint energy projects and encourage business investments between the two nations.

A key focus of the discussions was on facilitating travel and tourism, with both countries considering visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes. Such measures are intended to boost business exchanges and strengthen people-to-people ties.

Beyond economic collaboration, the talks also emphasized cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production. The leaders agreed on the importance of high-level exchanges and improved coordination between government agencies to effectively implement existing bilateral agreements.

Vietnam and Azerbaijan also pledged to enhance their cooperation at regional and international forums, supporting multilateralism and upholding the United Nations Charter and international law. The discussions underscore a shared commitment to fostering a robust strategic partnership between the two countries.
