In a bid to enhance collaborative efforts between Vietnamese localities and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. This visit aimed to bolster cooperation in various sectors while evaluating the business landscape and living conditions of the community with Vietnamese roots in these regions.
During discussions with provincial leaders, there was a mutual interest in deepening cooperation across areas such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials praised the strengthening ties with Vietnamese provinces through numerous cooperation agreements, business interactions, and developmental initiatives. Highlighting the success of these collaborations, Kratie province acknowledged advancements in diplomatic and socio-economic relations, including joint infrastructure projects and efforts to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during wartime in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ recognized the positive impact of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber industries in Cambodia, noting that these ventures have significantly contributed to local economic development and the strengthening of bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities underscored the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging Vietnamese businesses to explore the opportunities available in the area.
Moreover, the ambassador held discussions with representatives of the Vietnamese-origin community to address legal and livelihood concerns. He encouraged adherence to local laws while also advocating for educational support and sustainable development initiatives within the community.
Currently, Vietnam ranks as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors, with over 200 investment projects totaling an approximate registered capital of $3 billion. This significant economic footprint underscores the importance of continued cooperation and investment between the two neighboring countries.
