During the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Việt Nam advocated for enhanced economic integration and regional resilience. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung called on ASEAN members, along with China, Japan, and South Korea, to bolster cooperation across various sectors, including trade, connectivity, and sustainable development.
The minister placed significant emphasis on the effective implementation of regional trade agreements. He highlighted the need to broaden partnerships in energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy. Trung also proposed examining regional energy cooperation mechanisms to fortify the region’s resilience against potential economic and geopolitical challenges.
The meeting underscored the ASEAN+3 framework as a vital platform for fostering regional cooperation. Member countries agreed to expedite the ASEAN+3 Work Plan for 2023–2027, committing to enhance financial collaboration, expand regional food reserves, and promote initiatives in renewable energy. Additionally, they emphasized greater investment in education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
China, Japan, and South Korea expressed their continued support for ASEAN’s central role in regional matters. They affirmed their commitment to assisting in the advancement of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach to addressing the region’s challenges.
