Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, emphasizing the importance of widening market access and fostering robust economic partnerships. During discussions, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân advocated for maximizing the benefits of the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to bolster bilateral trade and investment. She also suggested potential upgrades to the agreement and called on the EAEU to address existing trade barriers, particularly those impacting Vietnamese industries such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
In their dialogue, both parties considered ways to improve the coordination of trade data, expedite joint committee meetings, and increase the use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU representatives noted that bilateral trade has nearly doubled, pointing to further opportunities for economic expansion between the regions.
Separately, in talks with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Xuân pushed for more frequent high-level exchanges and deeper economic collaboration between Vietnam and Egypt. She highlighted the potential for a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement and identified key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as ripe for expanded cooperation.
These discussions took place in Bishkek during Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This reflects Hanoi’s broader strategy to strengthen economic and diplomatic relationships with its regional partners, underscoring its commitment to building a more integrated and cooperative economic landscape.
