Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has urged the formation of an elite international search and rescue team to bolster Vietnam’s contributions to global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. This announcement was made during a ceremony recognizing the nation’s rescue operation in Venezuela, which followed devastating twin earthquakes. This mission saw a 124-member team from Vietnam’s military and public security sector demonstrate exceptional professionalism and compassion.
During their time in Venezuela, the Vietnamese rescue team made significant contributions, including the recovery of 57 earthquake victims and the distribution of 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies. They also provided medical attention to over 130 residents and extended additional financial support to the affected communities. The Prime Minister commended these efforts, highlighting the team’s dedication and the importance of their work in alleviating human suffering.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the need to enhance Vietnam’s rescue capabilities. He called for investments in modern equipment, specialized training, and improved coordination to ensure rapid deployment in future emergencies. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of building stronger international partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of these missions.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for better support and recognition for individuals involved in overseas humanitarian operations. Acknowledging the significant risks and contributions of these personnel, he advocated for enhanced support structures to ensure their well-being and continued motivation in such challenging roles.
In recognition of their efforts in Venezuela, the Vietnamese rescue delegation was awarded the Hero of Venezuela Medal. This honor underscores the impact of Vietnam’s commitment to global humanitarian causes and the vital role its rescue teams play in international disaster response scenarios.
