Vietnam has reinforced its commitment to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stressing that the Five-Point Consensus remains the crucial framework for achieving peace and stability in Myanmar. During an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Myanmar’s significance within ASEAN and expressed Vietnam’s support for initiatives aimed at fostering national reconciliation, economic recovery, and enhanced governance in the country.
Minister Lê emphasized the need for ASEAN to take more practical and concrete steps, such as engaging in regular dialogue and direct interaction with Myanmar, to effectively monitor developments and encourage meaningful progress. He underscored Vietnam’s readiness to collaborate closely with the ASEAN Chair of 2026 and other member states to assist Myanmar in addressing social challenges, combatting transnational crime, and bolstering regional cooperation.
ASEAN ministers collectively reiterated their commitment to supporting a Myanmar-led solution, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. They emphasized the need to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region as part of their efforts.
