In a significant move to bolster intellectual property protection, Thailand is set to destroy over 2 million items confiscated in cases of intellectual property infringement. This year, the country will dispose of 2.08 million seized goods, marking a substantial 36.45% increase from the 1.52 million items destroyed in 2025. The estimated value of these counterfeit goods has also surged to THB2.14 billion, up from THB900.91 million the previous year.
The range of counterfeit items includes clothing, watches, bags, electronic devices, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, as well as food and beverages, among other consumer products. Thai authorities have been actively conducting enforcement operations across both digital and physical marketplaces to combat the sale and distribution of these counterfeit goods.
To ensure the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of these items, the destruction process is being carried out at specialized facilities located in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. These facilities are equipped with environmental management systems that prevent harm to surrounding communities.
Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List according to the 2026 Special 301 Report, which evaluates intellectual property protection and enforcement practices. In response, Thai authorities are collaborating with the United States on an intellectual property work plan. This initiative aims to enhance enforcement measures, curb the sale of counterfeit products, and foster a more transparent business environment, ultimately safeguarding consumers.
