As Việt Nam and Singapore seek to bolster their political trust, both nations are broadening their strategic coordination, particularly in the areas of technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This collaboration is set to deepen during the upcoming state visit of Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm to Singapore from May 29 to 31. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the bilateral ties have moved beyond traditional economic relations, now focusing more on future-oriented sectors that promise long-term growth and enhance regional integration within ASEAN.

The elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025 underscores the increasing political trust and shared strategic interests between the two countries. Singapore is a crucial economic partner for Việt Nam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. The economic engagement spans thousands of projects in manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A notable emblem of their cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is advancing towards sustainable industrial models that align with global development goals.

Both nations are also enhancing their cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to link the innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks across both countries. Economic cooperation remains a pivotal focus of Tô Lâm’s visit, which also aims to foster deeper collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

Key technology initiatives, including “Tech Connect,” are anticipated to forge stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies. These initiatives will concentrate on various sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. Furthermore, the visit is expected to back the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.

During his visit, Tô Lâm will deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of the region’s premier security forums. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s increasing international presence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
